Modular vs All-in-one Binding Machines
Choosing between a punch and bind system that is all-in-one or modular can be difficult. Modular systems tend to be slightly more expensive than the all-in-one designs but afford the flexibility of switching between binding styles. All-in-one systems take up less space and come in configurations that are easy on the budget.
If you have the money in your budget and have a moderate or better volume binding need I would to recommend the modular system. They are traditionally more powerful and the design makes them much easier to service should the need arise.
That being said, there are very good all-in-one systems that are both productive and powerful. Generally speaking, the less expensive the machine the greater chance the durability of the system has been "engineered" out.
Choose a binding system by considering the durability and productivity before considering price and you'll be glad you did in the long run.
